‘印傳’ Inden Strap: Hanarai
Introducing our latest release of HIROSHIGE ‘印傳’ Inden Strap: Hanarai (花雷) — a creation inspired by the fleeting brilliance of fireworks that illuminate the summer sky.
The name unites 花 (hana, flower) and 雷 (rai, thunder), expressing the harmony between elegance and energy, that moment when silence is broken by light.
Crafted from INDEN:印傳 urushi-coated deer leather in deep jet black, Hanarai reveals intricate firework-like floral patterns, each hand-applied in lacquer by a certified INDEN master. Vivid orange accents along its edges and engraved characters recall the warmth of energy lingering in the calm after thunder.
INDEN, a centuries-old technique, was used as part of samurai armorware during the Sengoku period. However, as battles came to an end, the technique was used in fine crafts for the nobles. HIROSHIGE Inden Urushi is made by a certified master craftsman from start to finish. Urushi lacquer is carefully applied on deer leather and each pattern can only be stroked once.
The strap size is 20mm at the lugs and 16mm at the buckle.
Made to fit fine mechanical watches.
Deliveries will start from December 2025 onwards.
‘印傳’ INDEN SCAR: HANARAI

INDEN:印傳 URUSHI
The INDEN portion of Hanarai is created by combining Japanese deer leather with hand-applied urushi lacquer. This centuries-old technique, perfected during the Sengoku period (1467–1603), was once used in samurai armorware before evolving into refined crafts for the nobility.
Each INDEN piece is produced by a certified master craftsman, who applies urushi lacquer in single, deliberate strokes — a process so precise that even a single error cannot be corrected. Over time, the surface becomes glossier and develops a soft patina unique to urushi lacquer.
The deer leather is prized for its supple texture and durability — qualities that make it ideal for fine horological leatherwork.
Hiroshige's script and artisanal craftsmanship
Each strap’s orange accent is inspired by the glowing aftermath of fireworks, adding vibrancy and contrast to the deep black INDEN base. From the fine stitching to the polished burnishing, every detail reflects the pursuit of true artisanal refinement.
Every Hiroshige strap carries the handwritten poem of Ukiyo-e master Utagawa Hiroshige (ca. 1840), engraved from our archival artwork:
“The moon indulges into the night in various ways.”
The ends of the strap are hand cut with a shape reminiscent of the ends of a katana blade. This not only provides an iconic look that is unmistakably Hiroshige, but allows for easier entry into strap guides when worn.
Made By A Certified Master Craftsman
HIROSHIGE INDEN is made by a certified master craftsman from start to finish. It was originally created as a material for samurai armor, however as battles came to an end, the technique translated into fine crafts for nobility.
Because urushi is sensitive to temperature, humidity, and other seasonal factors, it requires many skills to apply evenly. Today, there are only five other 'master' level craftsmen in all of Japan that can create good INDEN.
